System Components
The Kollsman EVS II system consists of a 1 – 5 micron forward-looking, infrared (FLIR) sensor specifically designed for this application; an electronics processor box; and an infrared sapphire window installed in the aircraft nose section. EVS II uses proprietary video processing software algorithms to display an infrared image of the airport environment such as buildings, ground vehicles, lighted and unlighted aircraft, and terrain, etc. to the pilot on any video capable head up display (HUD) or a head down display (HDD,) such as a CRT or LCD display.
